Clifford Odets was one of the most prominent authors of American dramatic literature in the feverish 1930s. Through his plays, he expressed social protest and fought for humanity in a period that could be named by many as inhuman. The production Odets is based on his three plays: Awake and Sing!, Golden Boy and Paradise Lost. All three stories are placed in the time of the Great Depression and despite entirely different characters, all three pose the same question: Where was the space for love in the society of that time, a society that reminds us so much of today’s, when one had to fight incessantly for one’s own survival?
